Cascade du Garet is a nice place to step when cycling to the top of one of the most famous mountains in France, col du Tourmalet (2.115 m).In summertime it is very crowded with cyclists. Col du Tourmalet is one of the highlights in the “Tour de France”, a cycle tour of 3 weeks and very popular in Europe.
From Luz st Sauveur you first will arrive at the top near La Mongie before you will see a small sign to Cascade du Garet aside of the road, 4,5 kilometer form La Mongie. There is a small parking where signs lead you to a viewpoint on the upper part of the waterfall (right picture above). Early in the season (spring-early summer) a good waterfall to visit. In summertime the flow is quit reduces but still nice and refreshing when walking through the forrest.
A little bit further you can see the lower part of the cascade du Garet (left picture above), which I find a little more impressive with a free fall of appr. 23 meters. In total the falls are 58 meters high.
From the parking it is a 5 minute walk through a nice forrest, perfect for a stop with children.
A little bit further down the road you will another amazing waterfall, at the left side, Cascade d’Arizes with a single drop of 25 meters. Also easy to reach.
