Cascata di Mondada (also named or Cascata di Cranzünasc) is located at Mondada, near Bignasco, in Valle Bavona, Ticino, Switzerland. Cascata di Mondada is an unofficial named waterfall which we discovered when we were on holiday in the region of Lago Maggiore in 2003. From Lago Maggiore it is a short drive to the beautiful Valle di Maggia and Valle Bavona with dozens of waterfalls.
From Locarno drive into Valle di Maggia to Bignasco and take the left turn into Valle Bavona. After a few minutes you reach the hamlet Mondada with on the left side Cascata di Mondada. Park the car at the parking, near the busstop (gps 46.357746, 8.581990).
From the car park take the path towards the river. You only have to walk a hundred meter, keep right, until you reach the gorgeous Cascata di Mondada. When I was at the waterfall again in July 2021 the situation was a little different but I still could find my way to the river Bavona.
The riverside is a perfect spot to bath and to enjoy nature. When we were there we directly fell in love with this beautiful surrounding. I still sometimes dream of a house in the valley, cosy, nice weather and so relaxing. All that beauty, the waterfalls, cosy houses, so perfect.
Across the street at the parking you can walk up to some houses which are typical for the valley. I am curious if the old man still lives that lived there twenty years ago. I hope so, he was very nice and told us about the house and the region. I can remember that his biggest problem where mice.
In Valle di Maggia there are so many great waterfalls, too many to mention them. Just check out my map. A little further in Valle Bavona you can meet the most famous one: cascata di Foroglio. This one of the most photographed waterfall of Switzerland. Visit cascata di Foroglio and you know why!!!
