Devil’s Appendix waterfall

Devil’s Appendix is one of the highest single-drop waterfall in Wales with a free fall of 93 meters. Devil’s Appendix waterfall is located near Pont Pen-y-benglog (Snowdonia) in Wales (United Kingdom).

From Bangor drive east on the A5 towards Betwys-y-Coed. Somewhere in the middle lies lake Ogwen. There is a parking lot (gps 53.123660, -4.020189) from where you can hike to Devil’s Appendix. You have to pay for the parking. A roundtrip is possible and it is a popular walk, so it can be crowded in summertime. At the parking you also find a tourist information spot, toilets en a small cafe.

Before you start the walk: there is also a nice small waterfall north (400 m) of the parking called Rhaedr Ogwen. Not very tall but the scenery is perfect. Now the walk: from the parking keep left (east of the river), there is a trail going to lake Llyn Idwal.

At the lake you will have a great view on the waterfall Devil’s Appendix. At the end of the lake you go uphill, the trail bend slightly to the right and now you are heading to Devil’s kitchen, another nice waterfall situated in a small gorge. Here you cross the river and via the base of Devil’s Appendix return back along the other side of the lake to the car. The walk takes about 1,5-2 hours (4,5 kilometers).

Best period to visit the waterfall Devil’s Appendix is after heavy rainfall in the morning.
