Lötzer Wasserfall

(Lochbachfall)

The Lötzer Wasserfall (Lochbachfall) is a gorgeous waterfall in a gorge with the name Zammer Lochputz, near Lötz/Zams in the region Tirol. The Lötzer Wasserfall is situated directly next to the E60 but access is only possible via Zams: Take the exit Zams but don’t cross the river. Before the bridge turn right to the Lötzer Wasserfall/Zammer Lochputz.

The Lötzer Wasserfall is about 30 meters high and can be accessed over a suspension bridge leading to an old smithy. The gorge has an antrance fee, only a few euro’s.

The water of the Lötzbach comes from a 26 km² catchment area in the Lechtaler Alps. Total volume of water: 1,000 – 2,000 litres per second depending on time of year. 550 litres per second are used to produce electricity at the Zams power station.

The Lötzer Wasserfall falls towards the southeast and can best be visited late in the morning/midday in summertime.

The trail leads past a suspension bridge by an old dilapidated forge before a steep climb up a set of steps in the rock brings you to a mountain cave emanating the sounds of wondrouis bells. Those wishing to walk across it must look into their hears before remerging into the daylight by the waterfall to encounter a giant bull made of stone. The bull is watching and keeping guard over the head of a young nymph.
