The Riesachfälle or Riesach wasserfall is a powerful waterfall near Schladming in the region Steiermark. The river Riesachbach plunges down in two steps with a total descent of 140 meters. The Riesachfälle is the highest waterfall in Steiermark and one of the most impressive waterfalls in the country of Austria.
From Salzburg take the highway E10 to the south. At Altenmarkt in Pongau take road E651 to Schladming. At Schladming turn right to Rohrmoos/Untertal and drive up to Untertal over the Untertalstrasse heading to the Riesachsee.
From the end of the road (parking lot), the Lower Gfölleralm a path leads uphill at the left of the river where you have a good view on the fall. After 10 minute you will se the smaller lower part of the fall and further on (an extra 20 minutes) you will arrive at the bigger upper part of the Riesachfälle.
When going on to the Riesachsee you have to ascent 260 meters before reaching the higher lying Riesachsee, but the river keeps on cascading.
