Cascade Esplumouse is situated on an altitude of 1949 meter, south of Cauterets in the French Pyrenees. In the area of Cauterets there are dozens of waterfalls to be found, a must to visit.
Cascade Esplumouse is located up the mountain at Pont d’Espagne. From Lourdes drive to Argeles Gazost (D821) and drive further on to Cauterets (D913>D920). Fom Cauterets follow the signs for Pont d’Espagne, here is a large parking.
It is a very nice walk to Pont d’Espagne where you walk along two fine waterfalls. Walk to the big waterfall, a little behind the restaurant.
From here you have to climb up along Cascade du Pont d’Espagne and further on to Lac de Gaube. There is a trail at the right side of the lake going to the end of the lake. From the end of the lake it is another 2 kilometers to the base of Cascade Esplumouse on an altitude of 1.949 meters. The walk takes appr. 140 minutes and has an ascent of 490 meters.
It is also possible to take the telecabine (télesiege de Gaube) up from Pont Espagne to a place near lac de Gaube (alt 1.725 m). The walk is easier and the ascent is less then 200 meter. It isn’t really necessary to walk to the base of cascade Esplumouse. The waterfall is also visible from the beginning of lac de Gaube, although in the far distance. From the top of the telecabine it is a 15 minute walk to the lake.
Cascade Esplumouse cascades down over 90 meters. Upstream there is another waterfall called Cascade Darre Splumouse.
