Arbajarfoss

Árbæjarfoss, also written as Arbajarfoss, is a waterfall near a small town Hella. The waterfall is named after a nearby farm and church, Árbær.
The waterfall is located near mainroad 1. From Hvolsvöllur (towards Reykjavik) you have to go to road 271 at Hella, just after the river. From there you have to follow the road for 4 kilometers. From the road it is 200 meter walk over a trail/road towards the river.
The river Ytri-Rangá drops down over 5-10 meters in a beautiful landscape. The source of the river Ytri-Rangá can be found at the base of the famous volcano Hekla. The average width of the river is about 50 m, and the average depth is under 2 m. The river bed consists mainly of black and grey volcanic sand.
