Brengfossen

(Grønefossen, Gronefossen)

Brengfossen, also called Grønefossen or Gronefossen is a beautiful waterfall in the Lodalen (Lovatnet) near the campingsite at Sande. The waterfall is situated on the north shore of the Lovatnet, 6 kilometers southwest of Loen along road 723. Here the river Breng flows down 520 meter over gigantic rocks. On maps Grønefossen is the official name.

You won’t expect that Brengfossen has such a height, but we climbed up 400 meters (using an altitude meter) and the waterfall kept on falling. The view was amazing and the light was so mysterious. This waterfall must be at least 500 meter high. Really worthwhile to stop, especially late in the evening when the last sunbeams reaches the lake.

At the end of the Lovatnet you can admire Ramnefjellfossen (also called  Utigardfossen, Utigordsfoss or Ramnefjellsfossen) and is one of the highest single drop waterfall in Norway. The river Utigardselva drops down over a height of 495 meters, probably even higher. The waterfall is fed by the Ramnefjellbreen glacier and will flow on its top in Summertime.

Other waterfalls nearby are the Høysteinfossen, the Huldrefossen and the Kåpefossen in the Bødalen. It’s really worthwhile, when you are near Loen, to drive to the Lovatnet. At the end of the valley there is the Bødalen, one of the most beautiful places in Norway. We where lucky that the weather was beautiful, which results in astonishing beautiful photo’s.
