Cascata di Vilpiano (or in German Vilpianer wasserfall) is a gorgeous waterfall in the small village of Vilipiano, Trentino – Alto Adige (Südtirol), Italy.
The waterfall is located near highway ss38 between Merana and Bolzano. Take the exit Vilpiano and cross the river and railway. Keep on driving straight ahead following the road. At the crossing with a main road go left to the church. At the church go right and the take the first road left that leads to a parking at the fire department (gps 46.560022, 11.226151).
From the parking it is a 5-10 minute walk, heading along the training ground of the fire department. There are small wooden signs pointing to Cascata di Vilpiano (Vilpianer wasserfall).
Soon you will be walking upstream along the river to Cascata di Vilpiano (Vilpianer wasserfall). It is a short but very relaxing walk along several benches and a sort of altar. The scenery is beautiful and I felt myself very welcome.
The thing I likes most (beside the nice trail) is the shape of the waterfall. I was alone but this is a waterfall perfect for a fotoshoot. A little dark with some green colors and the white light of the water.
The river Meltina plunges down with a single drop of 63 meter but is over 80 meter high. Certainly when there is enough water in the river, this is a good waterfall to visit.
I visited Cascata di Vilpiano (Vilpianer wasserfall) end of April 2019, a good period to drop by. I liked the region of highway ss38 very much because there are several great waterfalls close to each other that you can visit.
