Hüfibachfall

(Hufibachfall, Hüfiquelle)

The Hüfibachfall or Hüfiquelle is a glacier waterfall at the end of the Maderanertal (Silenen) in the region Uri, Switzerland. The Hüfibachfall (Hüfiquelle) drops down with great power (in summertime) from the glacier Hüfifirn. The Hüfifirn is 7 km long and 500 meter wide.

From Altdorf drive to Silenen (road 2) and there take exit 38 to Amsteg. At the end of the exit go right to Birsten. At a small power station go left after the bridge, there is small sign Maderanertal/Bristen. The road ends at the cable station Golzern (Birsten). Park your car here (gps 46.766249, 8.712342).

From the Golzern cable station it is still a firm walk (9,5 km one way) to the Hüfibachfall (Hüfiquelle). The hike has an ascend of 1.000 meter and runs along the river Karstelenbach. 2,5 kilometer for the Hüfibachfall (Hüfiquelle) there is a nice viewpoint on Stäuber.

It is also possible to book an Alpentaxi (>two days in advance) that goes deeper into the valley, as far as Hotel Maderanertal. It is not cheap, in the year 2018: CHF 60.

In the Maderanertal there are several impressive waterfall like the Hüfibachfall (Hüfiquelle) or the impressive Stäuber and they are all over a 100 meters high. Probably in early summer the waterfalls reaches its maximum capacity. Other interesting waterfalls are: Lammerbachfall, Sidensackfall and the Milchbachfall.
