Laukifossen
Laukifossen is a small but scenic waterfall in the village of Olden, near Stryn, in the region Sogn og Fjordane, Norway.
In Olden follow the signs Oldedalen and Briksdalbreen. After 1,9 kilometer, at a white house, there is a small parking (1 car) at a fence. Behind the fence there is a small bridge. Below the bridge you can find the picturesque waterfall Laukifossen.
Best viewpoint is if you walk back the road for 100 meter and walk down to the river. There is no official path. Here you see Laukifossen dropping down over 5 meter. Not very high but oh so beautiful. I like the old parts of a wooden walking path or the leftovers of a wooden bridge very much. Photographing Laukifossen with the wooden remains is a guarantee for a great picture.
The color palette of the water in front of Laukifossen runs from deep blue to emerald green. Glacier water is often a guarantee for beautiful colors.
Best time to visit waterfalls in the Oldedalen is early summer and summer when the weather is warm and melts down snow and ice from the surrounding glaciers. All the melting water from the Glaciers (Myklebustbreen, Jostedalsbreen) around the Oldedalen ends in the river Oldeelva.
I visited the Oldedalen three times, last time July 2017 and every time it still surprises me that there are so many waterfalls in the Oldedalen. A lot of them are seasonal and not named, but there are still many official named waterfalls left. Most beautiful ones are Volefossen and Kleivafossen. They are located at the end of the valley near Briksdal.
