Skroyvstadfossen

(Skrøyvstadfossen)

Skrøyvstadfossen is an unofficial named waterfall at the Skrøyvstadvatnet. The river Skrøyvdalselva drops down in a free fall over 60 meters and can be seen from road 776 which runs along the waterfall. Total height of the waterfall is 112 meter.

Skrøyvstadfossen can be found near Skrøyvstad, 26 kilometer northwest of Hoylandet in Nord Trondelag. Just follow road 776 to Salsbruket until you approach a sharp curve in the road right after the Skrøyvstadtunnelen.

There isn’t an official parking but at the right side of the road (before the bridge over Skrøyvstadfossen) there is enough space to park some cars. On the bridge you have an amazing view on the valley below and on the other side on the Skrøyvstadfossen.

Skroyvstadfossen-viewYou can walk/climb towards the base of the single drop of Skrøyvstadfossen. Also a perfect place for a picnic. When we visited the north of Norway, August 2018, this was the only sunny day. So we had lunch with an amazing view. Only disadvantage was that the sun was shining just up the waterfall. So taking pictures was harsh, with so many backlight.

I think it was also the last day of a dry period because there wasn’t much water in the river.  Best time to visit Skrøyvstadfossen is late spring/early summer or after a rainy period.

There aren’t many other big waterfalls in the area. Only waterfall nearby (25 kilometer) is Grongstadfossen at Høylandet.
