The Wildensteiner wasserfall is a gorgeous waterfall south of Wildenstein (Gallizien) in the region Kärnten, Austria.
The Wildensteiner wasserfall is located near Klagenfurt. From Klagenfurt drive east over road 70 to Grafenstein and Gallizien. Drive further to road 85 to Wildenstein. For Wildenstein take the exit to the Wildensteiner wasserfall (there is a green sign).
Follow the road and signs for the waterfall. After 1 kilometer you can park your car at the end of the road at a free parking (gps 46.538980, 14.508944) near the “handwerks museum”.
From the museum it is a 10-15 minute walk to the 54 meter single drop waterfall located in a beautiful surrounding. The trail is easy with an ascent of 60 meter. In front of the Wildensteiner wasserfall there is a wooden platform with a good view on the waterfall.
Behind the waterfall there is small cave from which you have a terrific photogenic view on the Wildensteiner wasserfall. From the viewpoint you have to follow the trail further up which takes you to the other side of the river (keep left). The descent again until you reach the waterfall again. This is detor, I think (estimated) of 20-30 minutes???
Best time to visit the Wildensteiner wasserfall is in the morning. The Wildensteiner wasserfall falls towards the north-norheast, so most of the day the waterfall will be in the shade.
The Wildensteiner wasserfall is named after a ruin up at the waterfall called “Wildenstein”. It once was a nice castle but after an earthquake in 1348 the castle was destroyed.
Although the Wildensteiner wasserfall is one of the highest single drop waterfall in the region Kärnten it is still quite unknown by tourists.
