Schleierfall (Hintertux)

(Schleier wasserfall)

The Schleierfall is a very common name for a waterfall in Austria and means veil. This Schleierfall is one of the nicest waterfalls I visited during my stay in Austria in 2015. The Schleierfall is located near Hintertux/Hintertuxer Gletscher in the region Tirol, Austria.

From Zell am Ziller/Mayrhofen drive into the Hintertuxer tal until the road ends at a big parking lot in front of the Cableway. At the left the first thing you notice is a nice waterfall, but that is not the Schleierfall. Go to the right side (west) of the parking lot and cross the grass field. Here starts a firm walk to the Schleierfall. There are signs, but sometimes they forgot to mention “wasserfall”. After going up on a path the trail leads into the forrest; a nice path with beautiful views but at some parts steep. Keep left on crossings (if there is nog sign. After 50-60 minutes you already can see the Schleierfall from a distance, but still you have to climb up for 15 minutes. It is worthwhile to finish the walk.

The Schleierfall is a gorgeous waterfall fed by melted snow and in summertime the low in the river Weitentalbach is on its maximum.

When going further up there is another nice (unnamed) waterfall in the same river as the Schleierfall, let’f name it the oberer Weitentalbachfall.

There are several other great waterfalls near Hinterux, like the one near the parking lot: the Tuxbachfall, the Schraubenfall or Kesselfall and the Kunerfall. Beside the named waterfall there are several great unnamed waterfalls in the area of Hintertux. One of my favorite valleys regarding waterfalls
