Keilkeller wasserfall

The Keilkeller wasserfall is a 48 meter high waterfall south of Hippach in the Zillertal. The trailhead lies at the village of Schwendau in the region Tirol, Austria.
From Hippach drive south to Schwendau. There is a new parking (gps 47.19428, 11.85026), with a big information board, where few people now of. At least, I was the only one parking my car there. The road to the parking is narrow and I can understand why people prefer to walk from Schwendau.
The trail is marked ‘nr 8 – Keilkeller wasserfall’. Just follow the path up for 20 minutes. The road goes up with some medium steep parts, but it never gets to difficult. It is a pleasant walk but I was glad I reached the base of the Keilkeller wasserfall. There is a bench where you can rest, eat your lunch and enjoy the view. Talking about views, you can walk a little further up to a viewpoint over the Zillertal. Very nice to see! You also can walk down to the base of the Keilkeller wasserfall. Very refreshing and very nice to see and feel the power of the waterfall.
The river Hoabergbach thunders down the Hoabergalm (2.590 m) and have to find its way through a narrow gorge. Here the Keilkeller wasserfall drops down over 48 meters (measured), but I forgot to make a note if this includes the lower drop. I don’t think so. The river Hoabergbach is fed by melted snow from the Hoabergalm with several tops above the 2.000 meters.
Best time to visit the Keilkeller wasserfall is early summer when the temperatures rises and the river Hoabergbach is fed with lots of melted snow. I visited the Keilkeller wasserfall in the summer of 2024 and the waterfall was quite powerful for a late July.
Best daytime to visit the Keilkeller wasserfall is in the morning. The Keilkeller wasserfall falls towards the east and when taking photographs the waterfall is lightened by the sun.
There are a few other waterfall nearby that are worthwhile to visit: the Talbach wasserfall, the Laimacher wasserfall and the beautiful waterfalls at the Stillup stausee with the Stillup wasserfall.
