Bergarfoss
(Bergárfoss)
Intrigued by a photo of a magnificent waterfall I saw of the Bergárfoss I began to search for information and the location of this unspoiled, unknown waterfall in the river Bergá. So far so good, but there are two waterfalls with the same name in a river with the same name Bergá.
The Bergárfoss is approximately 40 meters high and can be very powerful. When so, the river Bergá pushed itself through a gap in the hill which results in a very special fan shaped waterfall.
The Bergárfoss can be found in the north of Iceland near Laugarbakki. To go there, take road 1 direction Blonduos for 13 kilometers. Take the exit for road 715 (Víðidalsvegur). After 4 kilometers the road turns into the 7175 (Hrappsstaðavegur). Further on, near the Kolufoss, keep on left. The waterfall can be found 1,5 km after the farm Hrappsstadir following the river Vididalsa by foot. Probably it is also possible to take road 7171 at the Kolufoss (to the right) and drive to the end of the road. There you should see the Bergárfoss.
In the river Bergá there two other small waterfalls: Efrifoss and Sveinsfoss.
On the road to the Bergárfoss you pass several other waterfalls:Kerholsfoss-Kerafossar-Kolufoss-Efrofoss (2)
