Cascada de Covadonga
(Cascada de Cuadonga)
Cascada de Covadonga is an unknown but scenic waterfall in Covadonga (Picos de Europa), Asturias, Spain. There aren’t many impresseive waterfalls in “Parque Nacional de Los Picos de Europa” but this one of them.
The waterfall is easy to reach from the Basilica in Covadonga or from the free parking, just before entering Covadonga (gps 43.309581, -5.051381). There is a path leading from the parking to Santa Cueva and the Basilica. When walking from the parking there is a small path going right after appr. 200 meter. In 3 minutes you will see cascada de Covadonga in a beautiful setting.
The path ends at cascada de Covadonga but you can climb down to the river to get another angle to shoot pictures from.
I was visiting cascada de Covadonga in summertime and there still was water in the river Riu de Cuadonga but I can imagine the flow increases after rainfall or in springtime. I think then there will be also water in cascada Santa Cueva. This is a waterfall further uphill down the path at the cave and next to the Basilica. In summertime this waterfall dries up.
