Cascade d’Escane Gat
(Cascade de Cauterets)
Cascade d’Escane Gat is one of the waterfalls near Cauterets in the Pyrenees, France. Most people are heading straight to the big Cascade de Lutour but there are several other beautiful waterfalls to be found around Cauterets, a place you have to visit.
From Cauterets drive south over D920 past cascade de Lutour until the road follows the river Gave du Marcadau. From the road you can see Cascade d’Escane Gat at the right side of the road. There is a small path to the right where you probably can park a car (gps 42.865284, -0.116526). Maybe it is better to park the car at the parking of Cascade de Lutour (gps 42.872300, -0.109823) and then walk upstream along the river. I think we did that, long ago when we were visiting Cauterets.
If you have enough time you can decide to make a walk starting at Cascade d’Escane Gat, the first waterfall you see after Cauterets. From here you can hike along the river passing (at least) five waterfalls before you reach Cascade de Boussès. The trail is easy but will take time (60-90 minutes, 4 kilometers, ending at Pont d’Espagne, with again a waterfall and a beautiful surrounding.
