Cascade de Gorges de Kakouetta is a sublime waterfall in a scenic setting. Gorges de Kaouetta (also named Gorges de Kakuetta or Gorges de Kakoueta) is one of the most scenic canyons you can visit in the French Pyrenees.
Gorges de Kakouetta is a narrow gorge, 300 meters deep and 2 kilometers long. It is one of three gorges in the area and is the most popular one with many tourists. Gorges de Kakouetta is open for public from March until November and you have to pay an admission fee (6 euros in 2019).
The way trough the gorges goes through low water, wooden paths and along caves. In 1995 all the facilities where destroyed by a big tidal wave.
A walk through Gorges de Kakouetta will take 2-3 hours including stops and photographing. Because of high temperatures in summer, hardly any direct sunlight and its high humidity Gorges de Kakouetta has a microclimate of its own. There is big variety of plant and animals and you don’t have to be surprised if you see a snake.
Cascade Gorges de Kakouetta is situated deeper in the gorge and is beautiful to see. With a single drop of 20 meters and a possibility to walk behind the falls, a nice waterfall to visit.
In the gorge you will find several other small waterfalls, pools and small streams good for great pictures.
