Cascade du Voile de la Mariée
Cascade du Voile de la Mariée is a beautiful waterfall in the shape of a bridal veil near La Chapelle-en-Valgaudemar/Gioberney in the Hautes Alpes, France.
Cascade du Voile de la Mariée is located in Parc national de Ecrins at the end of Vallee de la Chapelle.
Cascade du Voile de la Mariée is located at the end of road D480: from road N85 (at Saint Firmin) take the exit to the D985a in the direction of La Chapelle-en-Valgaudémar. From here the road is called D48o. Just after Chapelle-en-Valgaudémar at the left side of the road Cascade de Combefroide shows up. Further into the valley(after another 3,5 kilometers) Cascade du Casset shows up, also at the left side of the road. To Cascade du Voile de la Mariée it is another 6 kilometer drive until you reach a parking at Voile de la Mariée.
From here follow the trail to refuge de Gioberney, an astonishing beautiful walk. Just before the refuge, at your left side, you will see Cascade du Voile de la Mariée. The waterfall isn’t very powerful in summertime, but especially the scenery is so gorgeous. Something you don’t want to miss.
Cascade du Voile de la Mariée drops down over appr. 120 meters in multiple stages. The waterfall is most of the time nice to see but gets more powerful from spring to early summer. The waterfall is being fed with melted ice from the glacier Lauzon at an altitudes over 3.500 meter.
The valley you drive through to Cascade du Voile de la Mariée is famous because of the amount of waterfalls fed by many glaciers in the high Alpes. Two famous waterfalls are cascade du Casset and cascade de Combefroide.
