Kitsiputous
(Kitsifalls, Gihcigorži)
Kitsiputous or Kitsifalls is one of the highest waterfall in Finland. Kitsiputous is located near Enontekiö in the northern parts of Finland (Lapland) near the border with Norway.
Kitsiputous can be reached from the Malla parking lot (gps 69.06070, 20.77107) along road E8. From here it is a 5 kilometer walk to the west over the Nordkalottleden trail. The trail is well marked and is medium demanding (appr. 2 hours).
Kitsiputous waterfall is certainly the highest waterfall in Finland and is a two tier waterfall. Biggest single drop is appr. 30 meters and total height about 100 meter.
Best time to visit Kitsiputous is early summer when the volume of the river Kitsijoki reaches its maximum of 1.000 l/sec.
