Rastoke-Slunj Slapovi

Rastoke or Slunj Slapovi is an area with several waterfalls in the river Korana and Slunjcice. The waterfalls are located in the town of Slunj in the region Lika Slenj – Croatia Proper, Croatia. You can miss Rastoke when driving to Slunj. Slunj is near the Plitvice Lakes (30 minute drive), which is similar but much bigger. I liked Rastoke/Slunj Slapovi very much.

I had never heard of Rastoke but Rastoke is is a small canyon with a cute village and several waterfalls from one meter to some 12 meters high. It does not matter where you park the car (6 kuna per hour), everything is walkable.

If you start on the west side at the information kiosk you will first see the waterfalls of 12 meters from the top of the Korane Canyon. Soon you reach the wooden bridge with a restaurant and a waterfall with a height of 10 meters. Now walk down the street until you get  on a (larger) bridge. Turn right on to the best part of Rastoke, with restaurants and beautiful waterfalls in a cute area. A guarantee for beautiful pictures. After 100 meters you can turn right (you have to pay admission), where you go on a sort of island that comes with the best views and the opportunity to descend into a cave and a photo viewpoint on a giant rock. Really gorgeous.

When you’re done go a little bit further along the river until the houses stop. The entire track you can walk within the hour. It is also possible to extent the walk, further on the river Slunjcice, but due to heavy thunderstorm with hail so big as a pingpong balls, we had to leave.

With good weather there is a nice swimming spot in the river Korane: Walk back to the wooden bridge and go straight down here below the main road (300 meters). Here is a lawn, toys, a diving board, a bar and delicious cool water to swim in.
