Skiptarfoss

(Skiptárfoss)

Skiptárfoss is a waterfall in the Northwest of Iceland. On the south side of the Westfjords the Skiptá flows into the Kjálkafjörður that is part of the Breiðafjörður.

The waterfall is located East of Krossholt and west of Reykholar at Litlanes along road 60

Skiptárfoss isn’t a very powerful waterfall but is relatively high. The waterfall is shaped as a veil at the top, which makes this waterfall very nice to see. From there the river keeps on cascading down over 80 meters before it ends in the Kjálkafjörður.

Skiptárfoss is fed by melting water from Skiptárvötn, two lakes at an altitude of  250 meters. At the end of the summer there is hardly any water anymore in the river Skiptá.
