Steindyrafoss

Steindyrafoss is a waterfall in the North of Iceland, south of Dalvik. The river Þverá cascades down from the mountains and has a single drop of 15 meters  and ends in the river Svarfaðardalsa. Steindyrafoss is a nice waterfall and easy to reach. Steindyrafoss is fed by several small glaciers. Upstream of Steindyrafoss there is another waterfall with a height of 10 meters.

Steindyr means “Stone doorway” and is situated in the Steindyragil gorge, where there are numerous plants to be found.

From Dalvik take road 807 to the south for 7 kilometers until reaching the farm Steindyr. From here the waterfall can be admired from the roadside.

On the other side of the river Svarfaðardalsa there is another nice waterfall, Hofsárfoss or Goðafoss .
