Hofsarfoss
(Hofsárfoss, Goðafoss)
Hofsárfoss or Goðafoss is a waterfall in the North of Iceland, south of Dalvik. The river Hofsá cascades down in two drops and ends in the river Svarfaðardalsa. Hofsárfoss is an amazing waterfall with a total height of about 100 meters. Hofsárfoss is fed by several small glaciers.
From Dalvik take road 807 to the south for 9 kilometers until reaching the farm Hofsá. From here the waterfall can be admired from the roadside.
There is a big church near the waterfall, Vellir in Svarfaðardalur, between Dalvík and the farm Hofsá. Hofsá, a farm with a small wood, has a memorial dedicated to Soffonías Þorkelsson (1876–1964), a Canadian Icelander who made a handsome gift to promote forestry work.
On the other side of the river Svarfaðardalsa there is another nice waterfall, Steindyrafoss.
