Systrafoss

The waterfall Systrafoss is unique in its kind. The shape of the rocks, how the water falls and the surroundings make this waterfall one of the most beautiful and photogenic waterfalls in Iceland.

The waterfall Systrafoss is located just past the ring road (in the village Kirkjubæjarklaustur).

Systrafoss is fed by a small lake up at the waterfall called Systravatn. In summertime a lot of melted snow feds the lake creating this beautiful waterfall.

Systrafoss means sister falls and is named after a monastery that was located in Kirkjubæjarklaustur in the medieval time.

Along the waterfall there is a path that leads to the lake.

Thank you for the info. Thanks to it, I opened this waterfall to myself and explored the area around.
