Cascade de Cerveyrieu

Cascade de CerveyrieuCascade de Cerveyrieu is a tall, 60 meter, single drop waterfall in the village of Cerveyrieu (Artemare) in the region Rhone-Alpes/Ain, France.

The waterfall is easy to reach from the top (nice views) but almost impossible to visit from the bottom. When we visited Cascade de Cerveyrieu May 2022 we first went to the top.

When driving on the D31 west of Artemare you soon will see a small road to the left with a small sign “Cascade”. Go left here and park your car at the parking (gps 45.880122, 5.678372). From here it is a short walk to the top of Cascade de Cerveyrieu along a gorgeous shaped river. Difficult to explain what I mean but the bottom of the river (that you can see) has a jagged shape, vey beautiful to photograph.

At the viewpoint at the top of Cascade de Cerveyrieu you will have a great view on the valley and from aside on this impressive waterfall. In a rainy season, early spring the water flow can be tremendous when the river Le Seran tries to get rid of its water through a narrow gap in the rocks.

I think this was one of the better waterfalls I visited in France, May 2022. But we really also wanted to see the waterfall from the base so we drove down to the village of Cerveyrieu, along another nice waterfall in Canyon du Groin. From the road you can see a glimpse from the top but there is a private property you can’t access. There is a way to walk up along the river and through a meadow but this time I have followed the rules and only made some pictures from a distance. I have seen pictures from the bottom, so it must be possible (but I think you have to access private property).
