Cascade de la Billaude
(Saut Claude Roy)
Cascade de la Billaude is a nice waterfall south of Champagnole in the Jura, France.
From Champagnole drive south over road N5 for 10,5 kilometers and then turn left to Cascade de Billaude, there is also a blue sign “Cascade” which means waterfall. After a few hundred meters you can park the car (gps 46.681428, 5.936792).
From the car park it is a short walk until you see cascade de la Billaude, officially the waterfall has two names: Saut Claude Roy or cascade de la Billaude. There are two viewpoint, one near the parking and one a little further north. Normally you have a good view at the first viewpoint: on the two stages of the waterfall standing almost in front of cascade de la Billaude.
There is also a higher viewpoint (the second one) where you can see a third drop at the top of cascade de la Billaude.
Because of cascade de la Billaude is situated in a gorge the best time to visit is at noon when there is enough light reaching the waterfall.
