Cascade des Tufs, sometimes named Cascade Baume les Messieurs, is a gorgeous waterfall near Baume les Messieurs in the region Franche Comte/Jura, France.
From Lons le Saunier take the D417 to Champagnole, but after 12 kilometer take the exit to the left to Baume les Messieurs. Here go left and follow the signs “Grottes”. At the (almost) end of the road, near the restaurant, you can park your car. From here it is a short walk to Cascade des Tufs.
The site is well accessible and is particularly suitable for families. Cascade des Tufs is a very beautiful waterfall where the water of the river Dard gushes over with moss covered big rocks, forming an exceptional shape with many colors.
The source of Cascade des Tufs lies a few meters up at Petite source de la Cuisance. A hole in the mountain wall of cirque du Fer a Cheval consisiting out of chalk stone also called Tuf. This is where the name Cascade des Tufs comes from.
Hard to say if there is a best period to visit Cascade des Tufs. In every period there is something beautiful. In autumn the colors, in winter the amount of water, in spring the green colors and in summer you have a clear view on the moss.
Not far away from cascade des Tufs you can find the most beautiful waterfalls of the Jura. Near Doucier there are four big waterfalls in a row called cascades du Herrison: l’Eventail, le grand Saut, Saut de la Forge and le Saut Girard.
