Cascade du Garet
Cascade du Garet is a nice waterfall near the Col du Tourmalet in La Mongie, Midi Pyrenees/Haute Pyrenees, France.
From Luz saint Sauveur drive to La Mongie. A little outside the village (4.5 km) you will see a small sign “Cascade du Garet” aside of the road. There is a small parking where signs point to a viewpoint on the upper part of the waterfall (right picture above). From the parking it is a 5 minute walk through a nice forrest, perfect for a stop with children.
A little bit further down the trail you can see the lower part of the cascade du Garet (left picture above), which I find a little more impressive with a single drop of appr. 23 meters. In total the waterfall is 58 meters high.
Early in the season (spring or early summer) is the best time to visit cascade du Garet. In summertime the flow of the river is reduced to a minimum but still nice and refreshing when walking through the forrest.
Cascade du Garet is also a nice place to stop when cycling to the top of one of the most famous mountains in France, col du Tourmalet (2.115 m). In summertime it is very crowded with cyclists. Col du Tourmalet is one of the highlights in the “Tour de France”, a cycle tour of 3 weeks and very popular in Europe.
A little bit further down the road you will another amazing waterfall, at the left side, Cascade d’Arizes with a single drop of 25 meters. Also easy to reach.
