Cascades de Murel
(Le buffet d'Eauu)
Cascades de Murel is a serie of four small waterfalls in the river Valeine with a total descent of 25 meters. The biggest single drop and also the most beautiful one is 13 meters high and ends in a nice pool. Looks to me a perfect spot to swim….in summertime.
Cascades de Murel are located east of Albussac (south of Tulle) in the region Limousin/Correze, France. From Tulle drive south (on road D1120) to Forgès. Here you to take the exit to Grand Champ (D113). Near Grand Champ you already see a small white sign Grand Champ / Cascades de Murel. A narrow road leads you along several farms until you reach a parking at the end of the road.
There are picnic facilities at the parking situated at the river bank of the river Valeine. From the parking it is a 5 min walk to the first waterfall of cascades de Murel which is called “le buffet d’Eau”. There are three other small waterfalls in a row upstream from the first one. The total descend of all waterfalls is 25 meter. The biggest waterfall has a height of 13 meter.
Actually the biggest waterfall is further upstream which is called Saut de la Prade. This waterfall has a height of 25 meter. From cascades de Murel it is a nice walk upstream for appr. 1 kilometer (20-30 minutes).
As far I can see the river flows all year around with a respectable volume. I like the early summer season, but probably best time to visit Cascades de Murel is after a period of rainfall.
