Cascata de Pitões das Júnias is a waterfall near the small village Pitões das Júnias (Montalegre) in the region Vila Real, Portugal, and is part of the national park Peneda-Gerês.
It is approximately a two hour drive from Vila Real. On the road between Montalegre and Outeigro (road M308), in Covelaes you will see a sign for “Pitões das Júnias”. Soon you will see a brown sign “cascata” going left. Drive further until you see the next sign “cascata” and “Mosteiro” going left. This is a small road that ends at a big parking. A sign “cascata 900 meter” already point to the right. A short walk takes you to a viewpoint on Cascata de Pitões das Júnias.
From a wooden platform you have a good look on the waterfall on the opposite side of the valley. In a rainy periode the waterfall becomes quite impressive and is a visit worthwhile. Cascata de Pitões das Júnias has an almost single drop of appr. 30 meter but looks much higher.
