Torrener wasserfall

(Weißen Torren, Torrenerfall)

Torrener wasserfallThe Torrener wasserfall is a quite a hidden waterfall at the end of the Bluntautal, not far from Golling in the region Salzburg, Austria.

Actually I am not sure “Torrener wasserfall” is the appropriate name for this waterfall in the river Fischbach. I found this name in an online map but it doesn’t seems logical. In the Torrener ache there is a waterfall called Bluntau wasserfall. I think this should be named Torrener wasserfall, but who decides what is the official name….. On the other hand, the mountain that feeds the river Fischbach is called Torrener Joch. Nevertheless let’s assume you want to go to this nice waterfall:

From highway A10 take exit 28 Golling. At the end of the road go left to Golling. A little further, at a crossing, you already see the signs for “Bluntautal wasserfall”. Follow the signs now. Just for the “railway station” you have to go left again, over the bridge left again following the signs until you reach a parking. This is a paid parking (€7 day) from where you can start your walk to the Torrener wasserfall.

It is a nice walk into the Bluntautal to the Bluntau wasserfall and/or Torrener wasserfall, along the river and two small lakes. After 45 minutes you reach Gasthaus Bärenhof . If you don’t want to walk this end it is also possible to park at Gasthaus Bärenhof (for free!!!).

There are no signs at Gasthaus Bärenhof  for the Torrener wasserfall. Just cross the bridge in the direction of the Bluntau wasserfall and after 8 minutes there is a crossing at a small wooden shelter house. Go right to the Unterjochalm (small yelllow signs).

The road is pleasant and a little further it goes slightly up. After 15 minutes (from the crossing) you reach the first viewpoitt on the hidden Torrener wasserfall. You have to go off the road to see it. I think it is at gps 47.568253, 13.107292, there was a fence and a rope in a sharp bend in the road. Be careful if you cross the rope, but then you see the Torener wasserfall.

Now you can walk further up for another 10 minutes to the best viewpoint, also a hazardous viewpoint on the Torrener wasserfall (gps 47.567703, 13.104742). You have to go off the road again and descent a little to a tree from where you have an awesome view down on the Torrener wasserfall. But again, please be careful, this in not for children!

The first time I wanted to visit the Torrener wasserfall in July 2020 I took the wrong road up, at teh left side of the Fischbach. Very beautiful views but no view on the Torrener wasserfall. I saw people bathing at the top of the waterfall but no idea how they came there??

After a few days I returned and parked the car at Gasthaus Bärenhof. A roundtrip to the viewpoint on the Gasthaus Bärenhof took me 75 minutes. I think it was worthwhile and there are few people whoo now about this waterfall. There are hardly any pictures of it on the Internet. I also saw a canyoning trip through the Fischbach, that looks awesome!

The Torrener wasserfall is quite high with a double drop. Total estimated height is 50-70 meter, maybe even a 100 meter.

Best time to visit the Torrener wasserfall is early summer when the waterfall is fed with melted snow. I was at the Bluntau wasserfall and Torrener wasserfall in May (a long time ago) and end of July 2020.

The Bluntau valley and its nature is astonishing, so I recommend a visit.

From Gasthaus Bärenhof you also can visit another (small) waterfall, the “Bluntau wasserfall”. This is a 20 minute walk from Gasthaus Bärenhof .

Nearby, at Golling, you can visit the most beautiful waterfall in the region, Gollinger wasserfall, a must to visit.

First two pictures © Broderick Dyke, Austria. This is a different waterfall I photographed, which one is the right one?

    Only picture 5 is Torrenfall.
To reach it you need to cross the river a bit lower of Blutaunfall. Then there is a stone trail that goes up. After 200 meters you need to go out of the trail to the right and you see amazing waterfall.

    Hi,
The waterfall on the photo is Fischbach Wasserfall.
Torrener Wasserfall is identical with Bluntauwasserfall. But there is another hidden waterfall called Weiße Torren. Probably the most beautiful waterfall of the valley (in fact it is a series of waterfalls) but only active during snow melt and after heavy rain.

    Cheers, Klaus
