Glencar waterfall

( Eas Ghleann an Chairthe)

The Glencar waterfall is a nice 10 meter single drop waterfall near Glencar Lake, 11 kilometer west of Manorhamilton (Leitrim) in the republic of Ireland. The Irisch name for the waterfall is “Eas Ghleann an Chairthe”, where the light begins.

The nearest town is Sligo. From Sligo drive east onto road N16 for 8 kilometer until you see the sign and exit for “Glencar waterfall”. Follow the road for another 4.8 kilometer until you reach the parking for Glencar Lough (gps 54.338664, -8.369198).

From the parking it is a short walk (250 meter) to the viewpoint on the Glencar waterfall. The river Largandoon drops down in a single drop over approximately 8-10 meter. I have seen figures of 15 meter but this seems a little to much. Probably the total height is 15 meter.
