Hirzbach wasserfall
(Hirzbachfall)
The Hirzbach wasserfall is a nice waterfall along road 107 (Grossglocknerstrasse) near the small village Fusch an der Grossglocknerstrasse in the region Salzburg, Austria.
From Fusch a trail starts at the westside of the valley which lead along and around the Hirzbach wasserfall. There is a parking near the trailhead (gps 47.225314, 12.823768). The trail (a roundtrip) is called the “Nepomuks wasserfallrundweg” and is very well signed. The Hirzbach wasserfall consist out of 2 major parts with a manmade iron bridge in the middle of the Hirzbachfall.
July 2022 we visited the Hirzbach wasserfall and walked the “Nepomuks wasserfallrundweg” clockwise. The walk is easy and after 45 minutes we where back at the car. One little note: at the end (near the cows, there where a lot of stinging flies, not nice when wearing short trousers).
After 10 minutes you will arrive at the first viewpoint on the lower part of the Hirzbach wasserfall. I knew there must be a viewpoint with an even better view, so we walked further up to the top of the waterfall. At the top you see the upper part of the Hirzbach wasserfall, really gorgeous, certainly when you place people in front of the waterfall. Then you see how big the drops are!! But still not what I had seen before on the Internet. We continued the “Nepomuks wasserfallrundweg”.
When going down (almost at the end) you have to take an exit to another great view on the lower parts which are really amazing. We almost missed it.
Best time to visit the Hirzbachfall is early morning in summertime. The Hirzbach wasserfall falls towards the east and the total height is over 80 meters high (lower and upper fall), although I think the waterfall is much higher!!!
If you want to visit other waterfalls in the area, I suggest you take the Grossglocknerstrasse with many waterfalls or a visit to Kaprun. My favorites are: Sigmund Thun Klamm wasserfälle, Gossnitzfall and Jungfernsprung.
