The Lealt waterfall (Lealt falls) is a gorgeous waterfall on the Isle of Skye in Scotland. The waterfall is located 19 kilometer north of Portree, the tourist centre off the Island with many b&b’s, hotels and restaurants. The road to the Lealt waterfall is quite busy and some parts of the road can be narrow, but there are enough passing places.
Along road A855 you cant’t miss the parking of Lealt. At the end of the small parking you can go right to a new parking (just made in the summer of 2023). I think it won’t take long before you have to pay for the parking.
A short and easy walk leads to the first viewpoint where you can look into the depths of the gorge and see the Lealt waterfall finding its way (in two steps) down the gorge and ends 90 meters lower. In the background you can see the beautiful nature of the Isle of Skye, a guarantee for nice pictures. Now you walk along the gorge towards the sea to several other viewpoint on the waterfall and the see.
If you descend a little further you can see a third waterfall, with the biggest drop. Personally I think here you have the best views on the Lealt waterfall and the gorgeous surrounding. In the summer of 2023 we visited the falls for the first time and I was impressed by the views and the beauty around the Lealt waterfall.
The waterfalls are being fed by the river Lealt which its source can be found in the hills with height over six hundred meters.
A few kilometers north you will find another amazing and better known waterfall called Mealt falls (Kilt Rock Waterfall). Also a very touristic site and you have to pay for the parking here….
