Maldalsfossen

(Ljosafossen)

One of the main attractions in Norway is the Preikestolen in the Lysefjorden. From there road 13 to the north is a nice way to explore the beauty of the region Rogaland. Near Sand we took the ferry and drove further over road 520. An excellent choice. The road lead along several nice, unknown and surprising waterfalls.

One of the waterfalls you will see is the Maldalsfossen (also named as Ljosafossen). A waterfall with a height of 120 meters fed by the water of the Maldalsvatnet on an altitude of 363 meter. The Maldalsfossen is situated on the opposite side of the Akrafjord, near the Hongavikfossen in the municipality Sauda in the region Rogaland. Maldalsfossen is an unofficial name although often mentioned in official reports or articles.

Driving along the Saudafjord you will pass by the Hangandvikfossen also called the Brudeslöret or Hongavikfossen. With a height of 155 meters it is one of the bigger waterfalls in Rogaland. The Hangandvikfossen is situated along road 520, 10 kilometers south of Sauda at the west side of the Saudafjord.

A few kilometers further, along road 520 to Sauda, you will find another waterfall, the Svandalsfossen. In the area there are several unnamed waterfalls.
