The Walcher wasserfall is the highest waterfall of Austria, along the wasserfallerlebnisweg at Ferleiten in the region Salzburg, Austria.
From Fusch drive to the toll point of the Grossglocknerstrasse. Just before Ferleiten you have the best view on the highest waterfall of Austria (gps 47.17472, 12.81695). You can see the snow at the top and how high this waterfall is.
I am probably one of the few people to say that the Walcher wasserfall is the highest waterfall of Austria. July 2022 I decided to check if I was right and I went to the Grossglocknerstrasse to see if I am right. My conclusion: I am right. The Walcher wasserfall is a long stretched waterfall with many drops but close enough to each other to be considered as one waterfall. My proof is the pictures I made and the maps I examined.
I didn’t had enough time to walk along the river Walcher up but from Ferleiten a special signed trail called “wasserfall erlebnisweg” runs along the river Walcherbach . The river Walcherbach cascades down over 520 meters, but only the upper part is called Schleierfall.
The trail starts at the Tauernhaus in Ferleiten at the parking lot and ends at the Walcher Hochalm at an altitude of 1853 meters. From the parking lot the trail goes up parallel on the river Walcherbach. Already at the beginning you can see how impressive the Walcher wasserfall is.
Further up you can walk behind the Walcher wasserfall with an awesome view on the valley. The walk to the the Walcher wasserfall (Schleierfall) takes about 90-120 minutes with an ascend of 737 meters.
Best time to visit the Walcher wasserfall (Schleierfall) is in summertime. The Walcher wasserfall is being fed by the glacier Walcher Kees and a few other small glaciers.
