Cascade du Moulin d’Aval

Cascade du Moulin d’AvalCascade du Moulin d’Aval is a small waterfall in the river Flumen southeast of Saint Claude in the region Franche Comte/Jura, France.

When driving on road D436 from Saint Claude to Geneve (Switzerland) there is a nice viewpoint (just before les Moulins) on the gorges du Flumen. Park your car here (gps 46.356793, 5.902464).

When walking to the viewpoint on the valley, a little further up the road, you see a small path (gps 46.356755, 5.903101) going down to the river Flumen with a sign to cascade du Moulin d’Aval.

In a few minutes you descent to the base of the waterfall. In a rainy period Cascade du Moulin d’Aval can turn into a wild waterfall but most of the time is a nice but ordinary waterfall. May 2022 we finally visited Cascade du Moulin d’Aval and it was easy to find and very easy to reach. I was surprised by the beauty of the surrounding at the waterfall. Indeed Cascade du Moulin d’Aval is not a very big waterfall but still a very nice waterfall you have to visit when you are near. There are some trails for hiking, but we only went to Cascade du Moulin d’Aval.

A little further towards Geneve you see another waterfall at the left side of the road, le Chapeau de Gendarme. Very nice to see when there is water in the river. In summertime it runs dry.
