Asfossen
(Åsånafossen)
The Asfossen is the unofficial name for a waterfall in the river Aselvi, at the end of the Simadalsfjorden. The waterfall is located near Eidfjord in the region Hordaland. The river Aselvi drops down over 140 meters. Probably the water flow differs per season and can’t be seen the whole year around. When we were in the Simadalen we missed the fall, probably because of a lack of water in the river Aselvi.
When driving to the Simadalen you can see the waterfall from the roadside Fv103, just before the Simadalsfjorden ends. The waterfall runs from Kjeåsen (wonderful view) down into the Simadalsfjorden.
A little bit further into the Simadalen you will find the huge, powerful and impressing Skytjefossen. One of the best waterfalls in Hordaland you can visit. When standing in front of the fall you will feel how tiny and fragile people are. The water of the Skytjedalsvatnet thunders down with a great force over 410 meters.
The Simadalen is a valley east of Eidfjord in the region Hordaland. From Eidfjord it a 10 minute drive (8 kilometers) to the east over road Fv103. At the end of the road it is a short walk of 20 minutes to the Skytjefossen. After that you can find the Løfallfossen at the end of the valley, almost at the base of the Skytjefossen. I am not sure if it is possible to walk further on to the Rembedalsfossen. But if there is hardly any water in the Løfallfossen, you better stop there.
