Cascade de Valbois
Cascade de Valbois is a waterfall with a single drop of 40 meters near the village of Chassagne Saint Denis in the region Franche Comte/Doubs, France.
From Besancon take the D67 south to Ornans and just before arriving at Ornans take the D101 to Scey en Varais. Southeast of Scey en Varais a trail starts (gps 47.095539, 6.077987) heading into the reserve naturelle du ravin de Valbois.
It takes over 1 hour (>4 kilometer) before you reach the base of Cascade de Valbois. The walk takes you through a forrest along the river Valbois, on both side steep cliffs.
It is also possible to see Cascade de Valbois from the top of the cliffs. The trail starts behind the church of Saint Denis and takes appr. 20-30 minutes. I tried to walk to the top of Cascade de Valbois, May 2022, because I hadn’t that much time. It was more difficult than I thought because you have to go off the trail. Finally I found my way to the edge of the ravine and that was quite scary.I didn’t want to slip and fall 100 metres. I saw a glimpse of Cascade de Valbois but there was no water in it….
Probably it is also possible to descent to the river Valbois to see the waterfall from the bottom, but I am not sure. I didn’t saw a path.
