Cascade la Source du Lison
Cascade Source de Lison is an extraordinary waterfall near Nans-Sous-Sainte-Anne (west of Pontartlier) in the region Franche Comte/Jura, France.
Cascade Source de Lison is easy to reach from Pontarlier, Besancon or Dole. Drive to Nans-Sous-Sainte-Anne and take the D103 to “Source de Lison”, there are signs. A little further there is a sign “Source de Lison”. Go right here onto road D477. The road end at a parking, boutique and information centre (gps 46.967529, 6.010408). Park your car here (for free).
From the parking it a 200 meter walk to cascade Source de Lison and the caves and source of the river Lison. After enjoying the waterfall from the front, walk a little further and go right to the caves. Also nice to see.
Although the waterfall of Source de Lison is only 10 meters high (in two steps), they are very spectacular to see. The origin of the river lies in a cave and Cascade Source de Lison falls almost directly out of the cave.
The average volume of the river Lison is, at the source, 5,35 m3/s but from winter to spring the average volume doubles. There are peaks measures after heavy rainfall of 70-100 m3/s, extremely powerful.
We visited Cascade Source de Lison May 2022 and it was quite crowded with school kids who arrived by bus. I think this happens often and this waterfall is a popular tourist destination.
Another very popular tourist destination you have to visit is cascade Saut du Doubs.
